Been a week since I last blogged, so time to jot a few more notes down for you folks to file away in your brains. Had a wonderful email from my lifetime friend Phyllis Heefner Wagner. She had been going through some of her mothers old papers, etc., and ran across a newspaper account by Rex Conn, farm editor of the Cedar Rapids Gazette. It was dated in the fall of 1944, and my dad had been putting the barn roof back on, which had blown off the night of August 16th. The article included a wonderful picture of my dad, who was 46 at the time.

The questions and answers gave me some new insight of my dad. I always thought he served in the US Army in WW I, but the article indicates he tried to enlist in the Navy, and was turned down, and the war ended before he was drafted.

I always thought my dad was a lifetime republican, but the article indicates he was a democrat until 1932, when he first voted republican. The article mentions we were milking Shorthorn cattle, and raising Berkshire hogs, no surprise to me there.

Well, there is a lot more, but I don't think I can download the picture and the article for your viewing, so if you would like to see it, just send me a email at Howardonna@aol.com and I'll forward it to you.

Going to stop now, and go watch baseball from Yankee Stadium

Howard
