A lot has happened since my last post on July 21st. We flew out of Portland via N.W. Airlines on the 27th to help my brother Harold and his wife of 50 years celebrate. We stayed at their home, even sleeping in their bed. They slept in a trailer house just outside the back door. Think maybe they got the better deal, cause the air flow in their room was minimal.
Saw many nephews and neices and great nephews & neices and great, great nephews and neices. Please, don't ask me to name them all, I'm doing good to remember which are in the first generation, let alone the 3rd etc. They had a nice reception on Saturday the 29th (their anniversary date) at the Alice church for family members and a few close friends. Then that evening, we attended a wedding for a great neice, Ashley Martin. The bride and her attendants were beautifully attired, she in white, and the attendants in brillant orange.
We felt we needed some personal time with Harold & Donna, so the 4 of us left on Tuesday and went up to Dubuque, had a nice trip scenery wise. Went through a Maritime museum up there, and then a nice evening meal on the top of a ridge that runs along the river, at Ball Town, in a old tavern/restaurant. The view at what looked to be the end of the road was spectacular in the last light of the day. Want to go back someday and see the view in daylight hours.
We naturally went to the old home place, the barn is down, and I was determined I would not take any photos of it. I wanted to remember it, like it was when I was growing up, BUT, then I thought maybe Chris & Sue would want to see it, now that its down, so took several photos.
Of course, my trip East wouldn't be complete without a stop at the Lafayette Cemetary to visit the graves of my parents, and grand parents and numerous friends. God some good digital photos of headstones, better than what I took a year ago on a disposable camera.
A nice trip home on Friday the 4th, except no luggage. It didn't arrive till 6:00 Saturday afternoon. Thought about writing to the airline, but truthfully a letter wouldn't solve the problem that was already resolved.
So nice to get into my own bed, I slept like a rock, but was up and ready to get on with life very early Saturday morning. Hmmmm, wonder if that 2 hour time difference could explain my waking up early these days.
My pickup was doing all kind of strange things coming home from Newberg on Wednesday the 26th. Looks like I am going to have to replace the engine. No doubt its because I don't give my vehicles the proper oil changes etc like I should. Will just have to get busy and scrap some more windows for some cash to pay for the repair.
Today should be another warm, but not HOT day, so I'll sign off and get some shoes and socks on and get with it.
